We're the innovators on campus!
We're a software club at the University of Calgary. Through multidisciplinary teams, we take on interesting problems and use technology to solve them. Every semester, our teams combine software, design, and strategy to complete awesome projects.
At Tech Start, our members learn to use new technologies, gain experience with professional development tools and methodologies, and master the art of collaboration. We give our members the support and mentorship to succeed here and in industry regardless of their previous experiences. We're also the top spot on campus to meet fellow tech enthusiasts, aspiring entrepreneurs, and innovators.

Tech Start Projects
Every year, Tech Start runs a handful of year-long software development projects, each led by an experienced project manager. Each project aims to solve a compelling problem by harnessing technology and entrepreneurial principles. Our members participate in every stage of the software development lifecycle, and each team involves a diversity of roles like software developers, business strategists, and designers.
At the end of the year, teams present their finished projects to our sponsors at our annual showcase, and members can add their project to their portfolio to supercharge their career prospects. Joining a Tech Start project is the best way to gain skills, meet friends, and network with the tech community on campus.
Events
Every semester, Tech Start UCalgary organizes and hosts a range of events, both online and on campus. We cover a wide array of topics, from technical workshops to panel discussions with successful entrepreneurs to interviews with industry leaders. If you're interested in the intersection of technology and startups, make sure to follow our social media and sign up for our upcoming events! Almost all events are open to the public - no club membership is required!
Final Showcase 2025

Pason Tech Talk
We hosted a Tech Talk featuring one of our sponsors, Pason! Our project managers and teams learned about the key aspects of using infrastructure as code and explored possible implementations using Terraform. Our project teams had the opportunity to gain a practical understanding of IaC concepts and tools.
